DARK HORSE FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about Dark Horse League.
Code of Conduct
Behavior expected of every Dark Horse League member.
What are the behavior expectations in Dark Horse leagues?
All managers are expected to act with respect, fairness, and sportsmanship. This includes trade negotiations, league chats, and Discord communication. Healthy trash talk is welcome, but harassment, bullying, or personal attacks will not be tolerated.
Can I trash talk or joke around in Discord?
Yes. Friendly banter and rivalries are part of what makes fantasy football fun. However, trash talk must stay within reason:
- Friendly competition, jokes, and lighthearted banter.
- Harassment, hate speech, or personal insults.
What happens if someone crosses the line?
Moderators or commissioners will issue a warning. If behavior continues, the manager may be muted, suspended from league communication, or even removed. Buy-ins remain non-refundable.
How should trade negotiations be handled?
Trade talks should always be conducted in good faith. That means:
- No trolling offers meant to waste time.
- No pressuring or harassing another manager into a trade.
- No collusion (two or more managers making a deal designed to benefit one team unfairly).
What if I feel another manager is acting in bad faith?
Bring it to a moderator or commissioner privately. Do not escalate the argument in league chat. Mods will review and, if needed, step in.
Can I post league disputes in public channels?
No. Disputes must go directly to moderators or commissioners. This keeps public chats positive and prevents drama from disrupting the league.
What if someone repeatedly causes problems?
Repeat offenders can be removed and replaced. The integrity of the league comes first.
Commitment & Expectations
What every Dark Horse manager owes the league once they sign up.
What happens if someone ghosts or stops being active?
Ghosting is not tolerated. Every manager owes it to the league to stay engaged from draft day through the championship. If a manager stops setting lineups, ignores Discord, or refuses to respond to trade offers and messages, they may be replaced mid-season. Buy-ins are non-refundable: stepping away or quitting does not entitle anyone to their money back. This keeps things fair for the committed managers who expect a competitive league.
Will the league actually fill?
Yes. We have a proven track record of filling leagues every season. Spots are locked in on a first-come, first-paid basis. Once 12 buy-ins are confirmed through LeagueSafe, the league is officially full. If someone drops before paying, their spot is immediately offered to the next manager on the waiting list. The commitment process is structured so that every league launches smoothly.
How competitive are these leagues?
These leagues are very competitive. At $100 and $250 buy-ins, managers are expected to:
- Actively manage their roster (weekly lineup setting, waivers, trades).
- Engage in Discord for trades, announcements, and league interaction.
- Respect deadlines and rules to keep the league running fairly.
You should expect opponents who are serious, trade-savvy, and looking to win, not casual players who "set it and forget it."
What if I can't commit to checking in regularly?
Then this league may not be the right fit. Dark Horse leagues are designed for players who want a serious, high-engagement fantasy experience. If you just want to play casually, a lower-stakes or free public league might suit you better.
Why are buy-ins non-refundable?
Non-refundable buy-ins ensure accountability. Once you join, you're making a commitment to the other managers in your league. Refunds would create instability and make it easier for managers to quit mid-season, which damages the competition.
Draft Schedule
When the drafts run and what to expect on the day.
When is the draft?
All leagues draft on Monday, September 7, 2026 (Labor Day).
How long will the draft take?
Expect about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on how quickly managers make their picks.
What if I can't make the draft?
You can pre-rank your players in Sleeper ahead of time. If you miss the draft, the system will auto-draft for you using your rankings.
Can the draft time be changed if enough managers request it?
No. The draft date and time are locked in once the league is announced. This ensures consistency and avoids last-minute scheduling issues.
Will there be draft reminders?
Yes. Reminders will be posted in Discord leading up to draft day to make sure everyone is ready.
Draft Order
How and when the draft order is randomized.
When is the draft order randomized?
The draft order is randomized only after all 12 managers have paid their buy-in through LeagueSafe for that specific league.
How is the randomization done?
Sleeper's built-in random draft order generator is used to ensure fairness and transparency.
Why not randomize earlier?
If draft order is revealed before payments are collected, managers who don't like their spot could back out. That creates delays, weakens the league, diminishes overall league morale, and makes it harder to find a committed replacement. By waiting until everyone has paid, we protect the integrity of the league and ensure all managers are fully locked in.
Will I be notified when the draft order is set?
Yes. Once the league is filled and all buy-ins are confirmed, we'll announce in Discord that the draft order has been randomized.
Can I trade draft picks after randomization?
Yes. Once the order is finalized, Sleeper allows draft pick trading if enabled in the league settings.
Payout Structure
How prize money is split when the season ends.
What is the payout structure for the $1,000 league?
What is the payout structure for the $250 league?
What is the payout structure for the $100 league?
Why are only the top 3 spots paid out?
These are high-stakes, competitive leagues. Paying only the top 3 maximizes prize pools and keeps competition intense throughout the season.
Do payouts ever change?
No. The payout structure is set before the season begins and is locked in once the league fills.
When are payouts sent?
Payouts are sent immediately after the season ends using commissioner-controlled LeagueSafe.
LeagueSafe Payouts
How buy-ins are held and winnings are distributed.
Why are we using commissioner-controlled payouts instead of majority vote on LeagueSafe?
Majority vote may sound fair, but it's actually not safe. A simple majority could block rightful payouts, delay winnings, or create disputes if someone or multiple parties are upset about losing.
How do commissioner payouts work?
At the end of the season, the commissioner submits payouts directly through LeagueSafe. Funds are distributed instantly and securely.
Why should I trust commissioner payouts?
Commissioner payouts are:
- Standard for high-stakes leagues ($100 / $250+ buy-ins).
- The only way to guarantee instant payouts without delays or disputes.
- Still fully processed and tracked by LeagueSafe (commissioner cannot pocket funds; all payouts are visible in the system).
What if someone disagrees with the final standings or payouts?
Standings are finalized by Sleeper's official results, not the commissioner. Everything is public and transparent.
Has this been an issue in Dark Horse leagues before?
No. Our leagues always pay out smoothly. We've never had problems with commissioner payouts because it's the most secure and efficient method. Screenshots of our payout history are available on request.
